Some Tips For Your Online Job Search

By Erica Brown

There are many websites to help you with your online job search. Many permanent and temporary employment agencies now have websites. The Employment Development Department has a website that you can search on the Internet. You can submit your resume and cover letter online which makes it much easier.

There are however a few drawbacks for an online job search. One is that many more people will submit their resume's than you would normally expect. This is not just due to the huge number of people who are unemployed right now, but also due to the fact that so many more people have access to the Internet, versus local phone books or walk-ins to agencies.

Mixed in with all the regular jobs you may even find a number of ads for Internet or Home Businesses during your online job search. These may or may not be legitimate job opportunities, however you may want to seriously consider working from home, as it is a viable alternative to finding another job.

There is a saying 'if it sounds too good to be true it probably is'. Here are some examples of job opportunities that should raise a red flag and that you should stay away from in any circumstance. These jobs are usually (but may also not be) from foreign countries. The job posting will offer you a percentage of sales just for going to the bank! Or just for receiving payments for them!

The ruse is that being in a foreign country they have a problem with cashing checks and money orders from the US and you would be their US agent by depositing the checks in your account and then wiring them the money. What is the danger? First of all you will need to give them your confidential social security number 'for US regulations' and they can steal your identity, and secondly, they will want your bank information for 'security reasons'.

However the worst part is that it can take banks 2 weeks to discover a check, cashier's check or money order is forged. By the time they do, you have wired the money overseas.

You are responsible and will need to cover the funds. You will get hit with bank fines for depositing bad items, and can even be prosecuted for money laundering or accepting stolen property. Please do not take undue risks because you feel desperate.
